You are invited to participate in a Roadside Inspection conducted by the Tennessee Trucking Association in conjunction with the Tennessee Department of Safety on October 30th, at the Giles County Scales on I-65 North, mile marker 5 out of Alabama – northbound side.

Participants will divide into teams and a State Trooper will be assigned to lead each team.  Teams work with the troopers as they pull vehicles in for inspections.  Level I, II, and III inspections will be conducted.  It is the best educational experience a company can have regarding how roadside inspections are conducted.  You will see what might prompt a vehicle to be pulled in, what determines the level of inspection to be performed, and what is expected when paperwork and equipment are checked.

We are very excited about this opportunity to work with the Department of Safety again at this facility.  The event begins at 8:00 a.m. Central Time and concludes around 2:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. with a summary of the inspections conducted throughout the day.  You don’t have to be a member to participate.  There will be several “visitors” present.

If you can possibly get away, I think you will find it to be a very enlightening experience.  Even if you can’t make it, please try to send someone from your company who works with log records, safety, or maintenance.  We have had company owners, administrative personnel, dispatch, maintenance, etc., participating in the past.  All have gone away with valuable experience.

Thank you Western Express, Inc. for your generous lunch sponsorship. Please RSVP to this event so we can get a headcount for food. You can RSVP above.

This competition allows drivers to demonstrate their knowledge of the industry, driving skills, and professional competence for the chance to compete in the American Trucking Associations’ National Truck Driving Championships.

This program is great in promoting professionalism and safety consciousness among participating drivers and a positive image of our industry to the public.

On November 17, 2023, a luncheon was orchestrated by Titan Transfer, Inc. with U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty, backed by Team Hagerty. This gathering served as a chance for the senator to visit with trucking industry leaders.

This event highlighted the necessity and value of collaboration between industry stakeholders and government representatives. Such interactions are key to ensuring that the trucking community’s concerns and needs are heard and understood.

As the trucking industry navigates a complex landscape, the interaction between leaders and policymakers like Senator Hagerty underscores the industry’s commitment to advocacy and policy. It’s through these proactive endeavors that we can turn today’s challenges into tomorrow’s opportunities, solidifying a prosperous future for the trucking industry.

DALLAS, Texas – December 19, 2023 – Averitt associates are spreading joy this holiday season by delivering more than 15,000 Christmas and Holiday cards to soldiers stationed overseas.

The effort was coordinated as part of Hawkeye & Michelle’s “10,000 for the Troops” program, organized by New Country 96.3 radio station in Dallas, Texas.
Averitt’s commitment to supporting the U.S. military was showcased through the donation of 15,101 personalized cards, far surpassing the radio station’s goal of 10,000.

As part of Averitt’s year-round Team Up Community Challenge, associates based in the company’s locations in Texas actively participated in signing cards throughout the year. Averitt’s Team Up Community Challenge is an initiative where associates volunteer with organizations throughout their local communities – a process that’s served 220+ organizations in nearly 100 communities so far.

Averitt’s involvement in the program dates back to 2022, when Averitt associates signed approximately 1,000 cards in one week after hearing about the card drive on a local radio broadcast. During the card drop-off, Averitt learned that the station was facing logistical challenges for delivering the cards. Without hesitation, Averitt’s Dallas team stepped in to help.

In 2023, Averitt became an official sponsor of the “10,000 for the Troops” program to continue to help spread holiday cheer to those serving our country abroad.
“Being far from home is challenging no matter the season, and these personalized cards serve as a connection to the warmth and love of home,” said Gary Sasser, chairman and CEO of Averitt, who served in the Marine Corps Reserves. “We want them to know that we are thinking of them and appreciate what they do for our country.”

Averitt’s commitment to giving back to the community and supporting our military is a foundational element of the company’s culture. Earlier this year, Averitt was recognized as a 2024 Top Ten Military Friendly® Employer and Military Friendly® Spouse Employer by VIQTORY.

As 2023 came to a close, we are looking forward to a very active 2024 legislative session. We had an unusual 2023 legislative session with much attention at times dealing with the fallout from protests at the Capitol, battles between the legislature and the City of Nashville on oversight of the airport and Sports Authority, attempts to downsize the Metro Council, expulsions of legislators, and the horrific Covenant School shooting which resulted in a special session at the legislature in August.

TTA was very active in 2023 with Truck PAC making over $100,000 in contributions to legislators who have supported the industry. This wouldn’t have been possible without your support. On December 13, 2023, TTA hosted a joint fundraising dinner for Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Paul Bailey and Speaker Pro Tem Pat Marsh, with many of the members of the TTA Executive Committee attending. Much thanks always to Senator Bailey, Representative Pat Marsh and other members of the legislature who have businesses associated with the industry. Only with their involvement and the staff of TTA are we able to promote the interests of TTA in the legislature.

Also, we are still very active in regard to addressing the illegal booting and towing issues in Memphis. On a short term basis, the license of A1 Towing has been suspended and, at our request, an investigation into the towing activity has been opened by the Tennessee Attorney General’s office. On a long term basis, we are working on legislation with key legislators to prohibit this type of activity in the future. TTA will also have other issues to address once the legislature returns to session in January 2024.
