Final Scores can be downloaded here.  There will also be a link to these scores in our June newsletter.  Thank you to all who were involved and congratulations to the 2012 winners! ]]> http://tntrucking.org/tdc-step-van-championships-april-27-28-2012/feed/ 0 2012 TN DRIVER OF THE YEAR http://tntrucking.org/driver/ http://tntrucking.org/driver/#comments Mon, 06 Feb 2012 19:00:51 +0000 admin http://tntrucking.org/?p=822 Tennessee Trucking Association’s 2012 Driver of the Year is Rick Atkins, a professional driver for FirstFleet, Inc.  Rick has been a professional driver for 30 years.  He is from Etowah, TN, and he and his wife, Kathy, have two children.

During his tenure with FirstFleet, he has driven a total of 3,750,000 safe miles.  He has been recognized for achieving One and Two Million Miles Safe Driving and has been a certified Driver Trainer for over 17 years.  Rick was also a 2011 Tennessee Road Team Captain.

In addition to his years of professional, safe, courteous driving, Rick is also a believer of the term “Knights of the Highway” and is credited with rescuing a victim from an overturned pick up and staying until medical help arrived.

Rick has been a pastor of New Providence Baptist Church for the last 14 years, leading many mission trips both here in the states and abroad.  His accomplishments as a missionary and Christian ambassador are exemplary.  To name a few of many, he helped to start an orphanage in Uganda, started a ministry called Mathew 25:35 to distribute coats, food and shoes to needy families of Monroe County, and a mentoring program leading 5 young men into the ministry.  He continues to reach out to his community and the world through his ministry.

Rick is a true example of a professional driver.  Putting others first and seeing to their needs as well as making sure the public is safer when he is on the road.  Tennessee is truly honored to have Rick Atkins as our 2012 Driver of the Year.  The members of the Tennessee Trucking Association thank him for his service and for being such a good representative of the trucking industry.

The Tennessee Trucking Association in conjunction with the Tennessee Department of Safety conducts 7-8 roadside inspections across the State of Tennessee each year.  Each roadside offers the best educational experience a company can have regarding how roadside inspections are conducted.   Participants divide into teams and a State Trooper is assigned to lead each team.  Teams work with the troopers as they pull vehicles in for inspections.  Contact TTA at (615) 777-2882 or email esorrell@tntrucking.org for additional information.

The Pre-Employment Screening Program offers access to up to five years of driver crash data and three years of inspection data regardless of the state or jurisdiction. By using driver safety information during pre-employment screening, commercial carriers will be able to better assess the potential safety risks of prospective driver-employees. PSP also gives drivers additional opportunities to verify the data in their driving history and correct any discrepancies.  A driver’s records will be protected in accordance with federal privacy laws.
